A Sweet + Healthy Recipe: Cacao Love Treats
Let’s satisfy that sweet tooth without any refined sugar! Valentine’s Day and chocolate simply go hand in hand, so we’ve created a healthy version of a cake ball, sweetened with dates and infused with cacao powder for a deep chocolate flavor, fudge-like texture, and some major health perks. These Cacao Love Treats are energy-givers, making a perfect snack when dessert cravings strike! Plus, they’re incredibly delicious, quick to come together, and fun to make with kids.
Health Benefits of Cacao
Cacao beans grow on trees found in Central and South America. It’s the raw and organic form of cocoa and chocolate, and when left unprocessed, cacao is an Amazonian superfood!
● Reduces inflammation
● Densely packed with iron, protein, fiber, magnesium, and antioxidants
● Helps with depression, stress, blood pressure, and heart health
Ingredients:
● 1 cup of raw almonds
● 20 pitted Medjool dates
● 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
● 1 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
● 1/3 cup cacao powder + extra for decoration
● 1/2 tsp cinnamon
● 1/4 tsp coarse sea salt
Directions:
Step 1: Add all ingredients into a food processor. Process until a sticky dough forms.
Step 2: Use a cookie scoop to divide your dough into 18 rounds.
Step 3: With clean hands, roll the dough into balls.
Step 4: Optional: Decorate each ball by rolling in extra cacao powder.
Step 5: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
