DRY WINTER SKIN GOT YOU DOWN?

DRY WINTER SKIN GOT YOU DOWN?

How To Beat Dry Winter Skin

The harsh, cold winter weather and indoor central heating can leave many of us suffering with dry skin at this time of year. The key to fabulous skin is sticking to a skincare routine tailored to your skin type.Follow the tips below on how to beat dry winter skin and ensure that your skin feels nourished and moisturised – even at this time of year!

Use an Effective Cleanser & Gentle Exfoliating Products

Cleansing and exfoliating your skin regularly should be a part of your skincare routine all year round. However, it is particularly important to select the right products to cleanse and exfoliate your skin during the winter to avoid drying out your skin. Makeup remover wipes should be avoided at all costs, as they are not very effective at getting rid of the makeup, dirt and oils that have accumulated on your skin throughout the day, and they can also be incredibly drying on the skin. Instead, use a natural hydrating cleanser that will get rid of any impurities whilst soothing and hydrating the skin.

Gentle exfoliation is the key to achieving brighter-looking and softer skin. The key here is to be gentle on your skin and not massage any exfoliator into your skin too hard.  Our Velvet Verbena Scrub contains gentle Jojoba Beads to help get rid of any dead skin cells that have built up on the surface of your skin, as well as soothing Aloe Vera that is used to soften and moisturize the skin. Exfoliating also helps to prep your skin for any other products that you will apply as part of your skincare routine.

Choose Your Toner & Moisturizer Carefully

The products that you use on your face during the spring and summer may not be the best products for your skin during the colder months. Before moisturizing your skin, use an alcohol-free toner to get rid of any leftover traces of makeup and oils. Toners that contain alcohol can cause your skin to dry out.

As many of us tend to get drier skin during the winter, you might need to swap your summer moisturizing lotion for a richer cream, such as our Ultra Restore Crème. This is enhanced with nourishing Shea Butter and Kukui Nut Oil for maximum hydration, and is even great for sensitive skin.  Moisturizing night creams can also work really well to hydrate your skin whilst you sleep. This is because your skin’s blood flow is much higher during the night, and therefore your skin is more responsive to the products you use (plus it has 8 hours to work!). To really pamper your skin, apply a moisturizing face masque to your skin at least once a week. This will help give your skin an extra hydration boost.

Drink More Fluids

We are all aware of the importance of drinking water during the hot, summer months. However, drinking plenty of fluids is also very important in winter. Make a conscious effort to drink more water during the colder months and your skin will surely thank you for it! Applying moisturizing creams alone cannot completely get rid of dry skin. Over 60% of your skin is made up of water, so the amount of water that you drink has a large effect on the way that your skin looks and feels. Water plumps up your skin, helping you look younger, and it also encourages collagen production which is vital for your skin’s elasticity. It can also help to flush out any toxins from your body that can otherwise lead to acne and other skin-related problems. So, fill up your bottle and keep hydrated throughout the day!
